Vanda alpina x Renanthera vietnamensis is an experimental orchid hybrid in which both parents are adaptable to temperature. V. alpina may increase the number of spikes and the Renanthera the number of flowers. Flower colours could be any combination of the parents but probably yellow petals and a red lip.

Dendrobium loddigesii is a classic orchid species from Laos through to China. It has scented, long lasting flowers which can cover the plant completely. They are 5cm across pink and the lip has an orange disc and a frilly edge. This species usually has a creeping growth habit but our plants are a more pendant form. They can be grown in cool through to warm conditions and require a dry winter rest in bright light to flower well. Plants are growing in 7cm pots and are flowering size.

Dinema or Encyclia polybulbon is a miniature central American and Caribbean orchid with spreading habit so best grown mounted. The 3cm wide flowers have amber and bronze petals with a white lip. These established, flowering sized plants on tree-fern mounts.

Cymbidium devonianum is a compact species with pendulous inflorescences up to 45cm long and flowers 3.5cm across. They are olive green speckled with red and have a purple lip. Plants are growing in 7cm pots.

Cattleya (Sophronitis) coccinea is a legendary miniature orchid species from Brazil. The long-lasting scarlet flowers, with golden markings on the lip, can reach 8cm across, larger than the plant itself. We grow our plants (pictured) potted in gravel in small clay pots and watered frequently in the growing season. Ours grow cool but intermediate temperatures also give good results. Bright conditions suitable for Cattleyas or brighter will give the best flowering.

A compact growing cool tolerant Bulbophyllum from eastern India to Thailand in montane forests up to 1600m. The scented flowers are produced on wiry stems and arranged in an arc. The lower sepals form outward pointing tubes which are metallic golden yellow with purple spots. The hinged lip and appendaged dorsal are deep purple.

Plants can be grown in cool through to warm conditions but a little drier in the winter.

Renanthera vietnamensis x Vanda coerulescens is an experimental orchid hybrid in which both parents are adaptable to temperature and have branching spikes of more than 20 flowers which should be over 5cm across. Colour will be variable and any combination from either parent is possible.

Laelia anceps is a very tolerant Mexican orchid species with up to 6 long lasting 12cm flowers. Easy to grow and bloom and best with a cool and drier winter rest. The parents are a strong growing, alba form and a compact pink flowered plant.

Restrepia antennifera is a compact orchid found naturally growing in the mountains of South America. The flowers are 4cm from top to bottom with vivid orange and red striped lower sepals on which lies the golden, waxy textured lip. The red, antenna-like dorsal sepal and lateral petals curve elegantly outwards, giving the plant its specific name.

Plants are flowering size in 7cm pots.

Zygopetalm triste is a compact species from Minas Girais state Brazil, and growing to 1800m. The scented 6cm wide flowers have burgundy petals and a white, veined violet lip. It is an easy to grow species in cool to intermediate temperatures with plenty of moisture when in active growth.
