Pterostylis coccina, the Australian redhood is an autumn flowering, colony forming species with flowers up to 3cm across. It has white and red striped, vase shaped flowers with 2 upright “antennae" and a 3rd projecting from the dorsal petal.

They are easy to grow in the same conditions as other Australian and Mediterranean winter green orchids. The plants come into growth in the autumn and are summer deciduous. They can be grown in a cold unheated greenhouse or conservatory but is also happy growing on a cool window sill. Each bulb can produce two or three new bulbs every year resulting in a rewarding clump of flowers.
